After a pleasant walk through Jump City-which looked radiant in the rare day of sunshine- Gen found herself at her own front door, with a t-shirt clad Atlantian hero standing just behind her. Placing her hand on the door knob, she took a deep breath and tried to fathom how this moment was even occurring. A few weeks ago you were just a confused teenager with power. And I guess now everything is still confusing, way more confusing, even…but you found a friend. That’s a start. Feeling somehow as if opening the door to her little apartment would be the start of something much bigger, Gen unlocked the door and turned back towards Aqualad for a moment, grimacing.
“Sorry…it’s really messy right now in there. I wasn’t really expecting any visitors.”
then I reply and I’m like;
At the word “cute”, Gen felt her breath catch in her chest and she looked sharply up at the Atlantian boy, but covered her confused look in thanking the waitress as she set a big plate of waffles in front of her. Blushing and hoping he wouldn’t notice, she busied herself…
“Thanks!” Gen said lightly, starting to feel more at ease with the strange young hero she had befriended. “It’s only a few blocks away, anyways.” The sun outside was somewhat startling, since the pair had arrived under a clouded sky and air that still held the crisp, chill feeling of morning. She blinked, taking a quick glance around to make sure that she wasn’t going to walk off in the wrong direction. Getting lost on your own was one thing, and getting lost while leading a sweet, Atlantian, Teen Titan was another entirely.
A comfortable silence stretched out as they began to walk, broken only when Aqualad spoke up about who paid for breakfast. Shaking her head ever so slightly, she frowned and purposely looked away from his glance. “Still…I can pay you back later, if you want. I’ve got money at home.” She trained her eyes downward, eyeing the cracked pavement beneath her feet and busying the nervous part of her mind on stepping over the broken lines. If he hasn’t gotten mad yet, he’s probably not going to. God, I need to stop being so afraid of that! He’s obviously a good guy if he’s with the Titans, and he’s been nothing but kind to you.
The bright and unwavering sun eventually made her face forward to look around at the sight of Jump City on a nice day. Squinting her eyes to avoid the wind, she focused on how the sun reflected off of the greenery in the park in the most beautiful way, and how the sudden bright weather, in a way, mirrored her mood. The crushing black clouds of yesterday had mostly abated now, largely due to the help of the boy beside her. She was lost in thought as her mind steered more and more towards what might have happened without him, so that when he asked her if she wanted to go to the park, she smiled gratefully at him and nodded her head and answered “I’d love to!”. Gen threw her head back, squinting up at the few clouds that marred the ocean of blue sky above them “It’s beautiful outside today.”
